Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a painful skin disease that causes lumps, abscesses, and tunnels under the skin. These lumps can break open and leak, leading to pain, scars, and infection. Many people with HS suffer for years before finding the right treatment. When medicine does not help enough, surgery can be an option. However, there is no clear answer about which type of surgery works best.

Our study will look at two types of surgery: deroofing and wide local excision. Deroofing removes the top of the tunnels under the skin, while wide local excision removes the affected skin completely. We will collect and compare information from several hospitals across Canada to see which surgery helps patients the most, and which has fewer problems like infection or return of disease. By finding out which surgery works better, we hope to give doctors clearer guidelines. This will help people living with HS get better care, heal faster, and have a better quality of life.
