Chemoprevention of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma using topical 5-fluorouracil based therapies in solid organ transplant recipients: multicentre, pragmatic, parallel three group randomized trial

Women’s College Hospital

Dr. An-Wen Chan

Inaugural Canada-UK clinical trial collaboration funded by CIHR

After two years of preparatory work, SkIN Canada and UKDCTN (UK Dermatology clinical trials network) are aiming to launch our first joint clinical trial next year involving 25 sites in Canada and the UK.

Supported by C-NeST (Canadian Network for Skin disease Trials) and led by Drs. An-Wen Chan, Aaron Drucker, and Joseph Kim (Canada), and Drs. Catherine Harwood, Rubeta Matin, and Charlotte Proby (UK), this pivotal multinational randomized trial was recently awarded peer-reviewed grant funding from CIHR ($1.4 million) and Cancer Research UK ($3.4 million).

The trial will evaluate the benefits and harms of 5-fluorouracil cream alone and combined with calcipotriol for preventing cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in high-risk kidney, liver, lung, and heart transplant recipients
